As beautiful and stylish as a rose can be, one with no fragrance is like half a pair of expensive designer shoes.
Roses started out fragrant. For centuries they remained fragrant. And they remained fragrant pretty much up until WWII. Peace was introduced, and took the world by storm. It is a truly beautiful rose and deserved its popularity, but it marked the start of a trend in rose breeding when the focus turned exclusively to creating novel color sensations. This rose breeders did exceedingly well, managing a huge number of impressive colors and color combinations. But in the frantic work to create novel colors, breeders abandoned fragrance.
